Weekend parties & holiday letting

Situated just 20 minutes from Bath, Wells and Glastonbury, in the market town of Midsomer Norton, The Old Priory is reputed to be one of the oldest houses in Somerset, with records showing that it was first established in 1170. This historically significant building was an Augustinian Priory in early medieval times, later being seized by Henry VIII and bequeathed to Christchurch College, Oxford. It was owned by Christchurch until 1712 when it was sold to a private local buyer. A secret tunnel is said to have existed linking the nearby 15th century church to The Old Priory, which was possibly used for escape and refuge in the days of religious persecution. The building was later used as a school for young ladies in the Victorian and Edwardian era.

Today, the ancient honeyed stonework and a beautiful walled garden bursting with colour in the summer months greet you upon entering the gravelled driveway. Within this Grade II* building many original architectural features are retained, including large inglenook fireplaces, flagstone floors and original oak beamed ceilings.

A curvy flight of stairs within a Somerset staircase turret lead to the first and second floors and heavy iron studded doors open to beautiful rooms which have all been recently reburbished. The six individual bedrooms share a style which reflects the charm and atmosphere of the old, combined with the comfort and convenience of modern day living.

The Old Priory is available for exclusive private hire and provides the perfect location for a variety of events and occasions including hen parties and family gatherings. There are two lounges, both with old fireplaces, one for sitting and talking and one with a large screen television. The stone floored dining rooms can cater for up to 20 people, offering an intimate and private environment for sit-down or buffet dinners of both a formal or relaxed nature. This facility is particularly suitable for hen parties, family celebrations, friend’s get-togethers and club dinners. The bedrooms can be arranged to sleep up to 18 people and a further sofa bed in one of the lounges can be used to sleep an additional couple.
